An Ivy vine wrapped loosely around the neck, plucked clean except for two leaves. While this vine might not last long, there’s plenty of Ivy in the forest that it’s easy to change out. In battle, Ivy leaders will exchange their vine for simply two leaves tucked behind their ear. The dual leaves symbolize their two lives: one leaf for their life as a clan member, and the second for their life with Starclan.
Similar to the leaders, they also wear an ivy vine around their neck. They, however, only have one leaf on their vine to show their one life with the clan. Just as the leaders do, the deputy will switch out their vine for a single leaf behind their ear. Whenever they become leaders, they will be allowed to take on a new ivy vine with two leaves. If the previous leader’s accessories are still intact, the deputy is able to take and wear those.
Their connection and eternal blessing of Starclan is always visible by the glimmering moonstone flakes in their fur. On their fur visit, apprentices will claw part of the stone off and roll in it to get the tiny shards and powder in their fur. As long as they have Starclan’s blessing, the glimmer will hold. If they break the code, however, the pieces will fall out as they have lost the blessing of Starclan.
Requiring sharp vision, watcher's singular accessory is tar under the eyes. The black tar is taken from the ember chasam and thunderpath and wiped under the eyes. The black ink helps reduce glare and increase their vision focus.
Our beloved caretakers often have paws and stomachs stained red from berry juice. The brambles that guard the nursery have wild berries that fall off and get crushed. The stains show their eternal devotion to their kits and to the nursery. While some cats may get berry juice in their pelt on occasion, nothing can compare to the eternal coloration Caretakers have!
Newest warriors will have vines wrapped around their forelegs at their warrior ceremony. These vines will remain wrapped for a few moons, and will wear away as the new warrior fights, hunts, patrols, and so forth. By the time the gauntlet falls off, the young cat will have proven their strength and their experience! They will then be recognized as full warriors and can take on an apprentice.
The last rank to receive an accessory is sentinels. They will wrap one forepaw with the tail of a squirrel, showing that they have served their clan well and deserve rest. Kits and young apprentices who become apprentices may wait until they are fifteen moons before donning the tail band, as it is gruesome but demonstrates their devotion to their clan.
Apprentices, warriors, and senior warriors are an important part of Ivyclan even if they did not receive an item to wear. Instead, the first whisker or claw lost by an apprentice symbolizes the warrior they will become. A claw or whisker shed shows that they will be gentle and intelligent warriors, whereas a claw or whisker lost in battle shows they will be strong and fierce. The claw or whisker lost will be stored in their nests permanently for good luck.
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for many cats to be named with the same prefix, which leads to confusion and convolution. It has been decided that only two cats may carry the same prefix at a time.
As A Prefix
Too reminiscent of the Dark Forest. The name is believed to bring curses and bad luck to the kits and the clanmates that surround them. Some cats who are exiled will change their prefix to Dark- as it is believed to carry power
As A Suffix
Similarly to its prefix, Dark is not a suffix often used. Some cats who have committed heinous crimes as apprentices will receive the suffix until they have proven themselves worthy of bearing another name. Often, the new suffix is -light to signify their transition.
As A Prefix
Eclipses are dark times and as such, Redstar has not allowed her clan to carry the name. Cats who join with this name are believed to be bad luck.
As A Prefix
Redstar forbade this as a name to honor the dead, initially believing her mother, Ivy, had passed. When it was discovered she was alive, Redstar deemed only her line allowed to carry it.
As A Suffix
Avoided during Redstar's time as a superstition. She had spent much of her leading years thwarting attempts to overthrow her, and it is thought that any cat who bears the name is destined to become corrupt of heart and try to take over Ivyclan. As such, no leader will allow their warriors to have -ivy as their warrior name.
As A Prefix
Reserved only for places with direct connection to Starclan such as the Moonstone and Moonpool. Medicine Cats who have received a Prophecy may request their prefix to be changed to Moon.
As A Suffix
This is a forbidden name for all cats: Redstar deemed it just as sacred as -star and will not allow any cats to take it on.
As A Prefix
This one earned quite some cackling from Redstar as she discussed it with her senior warriors. What if the kit was to be leader, and become Starstar? And besides, she felt it was a mockery of Starclan to name a living cat and share the name.
As A Suffix
Reserved only for leaders.
As A Prefix
These names are not forbidden, but they’re quite uncommon. Often these names are granted to the kits by a medicine cat charged with healing them. Kits born weak and sick will be given the prefix to strengthen them and promise Starclan’s protection.
